The results of Asheville’s recent Disparity Study on the City’s contracting for fiscal years 2012 through 2017 are in. Presentations on these results will be provided to Council’s Planning & Economic Development Committee and to full City Council at their Nov. 27 meeting.
Taking the results to our community
The results of the disparity study will be provided at two sessions on Nov. 28 at the Linwood Crump Community Center, 121 Shiloh Road. The two sessions are set for 6 and 7 p.m.
BBC Research & Consulting (BBC) was commissioned to conduct this study. Specifically, the study will examine whether there are any disparities between:
- The percentage of contract dollars that the City spent with minority- and women-owned businesses during the study period; and
- The percentage of contract dollars that minority- and women-owned businesses might be expected to receive based on their availability to perform specific types and sizes of City contracts.
The study will focus on contracts that the City awarded during the period of July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2017.
What to expect at these sessions
BBC Research & Consulting will review the results presented to City Council and then open up for a period of Q & A.
We will also provide time for you to network with City staff about future contracting with the City. Departments attending include Capital Projects, Communication & Public Engagement, Equity Office, General Services, Minority Business, Parks & Recreation, Purchasing, Water Resources and more. The City is still in the process of the Bond Projects and combined with our other contracting efforts, we want to provide a guide to doing business with us.
You do not want to miss this opportunity. Again, two sessions will be held on Nov. 28:
- 6 to 7 p.m.
- 7 to 8 p.m.
Both will be held at the Linwood Crump Shiloh Center, 121 Shiloh Road.
We look forward to your attendance! If would be helpful to our planning if you could RSVP through this Eventbrite link.
Childcare (5 years and up) and interpretive services will be available.
