City of Asheville has openings on 4 boards

The boards listed below currently have vacancies. The deadline for receiving applications for these openings is 5 p.m. May 3.

CIVIL SERVICE BOARD: This board works with the Human Resources Department to resolve employee grievances on an as-needed basis, as well as meets periodically to discuss personnel administration issues.

Candidates for membership on the Civil Service Board must be “qualified voters of the City and not employed by the City.” To be a qualified voter of the City, the candidate must live inside the City limits and be registered to vote. Qualified candidates for the Civil Service Board must have been separated from employment or contract with the City of Asheville for at least 7 years, and not have a spouse currently employed with the City of Asheville.

 

HOMELESS INITIATIVE ADVISORY COMMITTEE: This vacancy is for an individual in Veteran’s Administration. The purpose of the Committee is to implement the Ten Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness, and its duties and responsibilities shall include (1) conduct research and investigation into issues about homelessness, including causes and effects within Asheville and the surrounding area; (2) formulate and make recommendations to local governmental entities and social service agencies to reduce the incidence of homelessness; (3) act as a clearinghouse for information on local homelessness issues; and (4) other duties as requested by the City Council, Buncombe County Board of Commissioners, or as the Committee deems appropriate.

 

HOUSING AUTHORITY: The Commissioners are the policy-makers and governing body of the Housing Authority. They review and approve all budgets for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, approve plans and specifications, award contracts and appoint the Executive Director.

 

MULTIMODAL TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION: Members shall represent various modes of transportation to include, but not be limited to: transit, greenways, automobiles, bikes, pedestrians, etc. Members shall possess expertise and interest in the sustainability and development of multimodal transportation and demonstrate willingness to participate actively. This Commission The Commission will (1) recommend policies for the development/ integration of multimodal transportation planning and education to the City; (2) assist with the development of a multimodal transportation system; (3) assist the City with the implementation of best management practices for educating the public on the benefits of multimodal transportation; (4) assist in the sustainability, development and implementation of the multimodal transportation plan; and (5) assist in the prioritization of the Capital Improvement Plan as it relates to multimodal transportation projects.
