Some $928,000 in federal HOME Investment Partnership money is available locally to create new affordable housing and/or to make existing housing affordable. The Asheville Regional Housing Consortium is requesting applications from nonprofits and private developers for distribution of this funds.
HOME funds can be used in a variety of ways: for new construction, rehabilitation, rent subsidies, down payment assistance or rapid re-housing for the homeless. Additionally, the Consortium stated that locationally efficient projects (i.e., walkable to grocery store, transit, jobs) would be given preference for funding.
The HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) provides grants that communities use to fund a wide range of activities including building, buying, and/or rehabilitating affordable housing for rent or homeownership or providing direct rental assistance to low-income people. HOME is the largest federal block grant to state and local governments designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income households.
